Trained as an architect in Scotland, Ian has 33 years of professional experience and is an award winning, published and exhibited professional. Ian entered the field of interior & retail consulting and design 29 years ago, after 5 years of architecture practice. Ian has had a varied career, working for firms such as Miller Zell in Atlanta (VP Project Director, then led the design group for his final two years there), CRSS in Houston (Studio Head), Heery in London (Design Architect) as well as serving as personal architect to Lord Astor of Hever.

In 2003, Ian established his own Retail Design & Interior Agency, Rattray+, which he successfully ran until being tempted to join RetailOne in 2013.

Ian is currently the Vice President of Creative Services for RetailOne in Atlanta GA, an Executive Team position.

In all of his roles, Ian has interacted with client up to and including the board of directors, has run multiple large teams, and has mentored many individuals.

Ian’s experience has included on-site work in Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Dubai, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Norway, Turkey, UK and the USA and his work has been implemented worldwide in over 23 countries.

In the retail arena, Ian has developed many Stores-Of-The-Future, including projects for TeknoSA (Turkey) Vision Source, Transitions, Boot Barn and Exxon/Esso/ExxonMobile. Ian’s work has been implemented in over 10,000 locations worldwide. In the automotive marketplace, Ian developed breakthrough retail experiences for VW/Audi in the USA, Mexico and Germany, as well as developing full new Store-Of-The-Future programs for Ford, various GM brands, Suzuki, Nissan, Autonation and concept designs for Saab and BMW. Over 2000 dealerships have been developed worldwide based upon Ian’s strategies and designs.

That said, Ian is a highly talented strategist and designer, a natural leader and an excellent presenter who drives way too fast, is a ton of fun to work with and has the reputation of being the hardest working guy in retail!
